Fergus started preschool at Amiguitos in Milwaukie in early September. No separation anxiety, which wasn't a surprise. By his third class day, he was running to hug a teacher and saying "I missed you" as a greeting. Fergus is asking a lot about what things say, pointing to symbols and asking what they mean- for example, he knows the "don't" slash sign and will ask what it is saying "no" to. He used the word hypothesis correctly in a sentence, which was kind of funny. A few weeks later, after Jason's parental leave ended, he started going to the Gladstone YMCA on other days (and going to a drop in place, We Village, at times) due to some unexpected changes in plans. He gets daily report cards from the YMCA, which is kinda neat. I recently took him to get a short buzz cut because he was really not liking me combing his hair in the morning; problem solved.
Jason took Milo to his first swimming lesson a few weeks ago; I couldn't go, but I'm glad we got him started at Swimbabes. Milo also got to go sailing with the rest of us recently, but ended up sleeping through most of it thankfully (hard to do much else when confined to the life vest). Right at 5 months, he was starting to sit up for a few seconds at a time by himself, had thrown himself out of his little seat-thingy a few times, and was attempting to drag himself around pretty aggressively. A few days later, he was sitting up for minutes at a time, twisting around, grabbing everything in sight, and doing his best to stand up whenever possible. He can hold his own bottle, has had a few tastes of home made baby food. Unfortunately, we've all been suffering from stuffiness for the last few weeks. Milo showing off his "sit" skills:

I took Fergus to a "Prom" at the Portland Children's Museum, which was fun; he could run around the exhibits when the dancing got old. Here he is in his finery:

We definitely have a cat now; it's an all black cat that Fergus first named Elizabeth, then "Night."
